Session Filter Setup Checklist

Best Practices

  • ✓ Match strategy to session characteristics
  • ✓ Use overlap periods for trend strategies
  • ✓ Trade Asian for mean reversion
  • ✓ Account for broker timezone offsets
  • ✓ Handle DST transitions gracefully
  • ✓ Close positions before market close

Common Mistakes

  • ✗ Ignoring broker server time
  • ✗ Hardcoding UTC without DST
  • ✗ Trading breakouts in Asian session
  • ✗ Running range EAs during London
  • ✗ Not handling Sunday open gap
  • ✗ Trading through rollover (spreads spike)

Pro Tip: London Open Breakout

One of the most reliable session strategies: Mark the Asian session high/low, then trade the breakout at London open. Use a stop loss at the opposite side of the range and take profit at 1.5x the range size. Close any open trades by 11:00 UTC.
